If you're expecting your discs to come back looking like they did when you first purchased them you're in for a disappointment. The point of resurfacing is to polish the disc so the system can read the data.
Blu-ray discs store data at the bottom of the disc making it easier to damage to disc if you're too aggressive. CD and DVD disc data is written at the top under the label. Damaging the top of a CD or DVD is worse than a huge gouge on the bottom.
